About – My Philosophy

Strength: the quality or state of being strong; bodily or muscular power; vigour

Strength training means developing greater bodily and muscular power and vigour. Strength training helps develop stronger muscles, that will have additional strength and stamina for daily activities. If your body’s muscles are strong, it also means you are more likely to recover quickly from injuries, and you are sure to burn calories more efficiently and effectively. While one goal of strength training can be to increase the size of your muscles, another may be to add definition to long, lean limbs or to help maintain healthy bones and stave off injuries and sickness.

Strength training can also provide significant functional benefits and improvement in overall health and well-being, including increased bone density and tendon and ligament strength and toughness. Strength training can improve joint function, reduced potential for injury, improve cardiac function, and elevate HDL (good) cholesterol.

Agility: the power of moving the limbs quickly and easily; nimbleness

Agility means being nimble. It is quickness and ease of movement. It is the union of dynamic balance and speed. Agility gives you the ability to move and change the position of your body with skill and control when faced with a fitness challenge or while simply accomplishing day-to-day tasks.  Agility requires a combination of skills such as coordination, speed, strength, stamina and balance.

We can improve agility by improving the component parts – coordination, speed, strength, stamina and balance. Agility training exercises allow you to increase body awareness, selected exercises and movements. Depending on your training plan, these exercises can be tailored to certain motor skills specific in your sport of choice. Since agility is based on stop and start demands placed on the body, it requires good strength or the quality of movement will be diminished.
